BIOGRAPHY

Due to frequent asthma attacks, I spent many nights of my early youth in the bathroom of my childhood home in the Netherlands, as steam was often the only solution for my wheezing lungs. My parents would sit me down next to the bathtub, run the water as hot as possible, and read me folktales for hours until slowly, through the stories and the steam, I got my breath back.

As soon as I was old enough, I moved about, spending time in London, New York and Quito, Ecuador, armed with a camera and a pen, looking for stories to tell.

I now live with my wife and our dog in Morocco—many hundreds of kilometers away from the small family home I grew up in. Yet those warm memories of listening to folktales in a steam-filled bathroom have never left me, and through my stories and novel, I hope to share some of that warmth with you.
